Umang`07-`08 - a social fiesta by Navodaya Action Group

The very first step in achieving the goals set by NAG came in the form of UMANG`07-08`-A 3-day programme with main highlights as Education fair cum career counselling, regional alumni meet, agro info and free medicine distribution camp, free health check up. The very first venture of NAG, UMANG`07-`08` was held at Supaul, Bihar. Supaul ,  a  small district in northern Bihar, and juxtaposed with Nepal border. The very idea behind choosing Supaul for the hub of the first venture of NAG was owing to the fact that it is one of the most backward districts of Bihar. With the noble cause of enlightening the poverty stricken and the backward sections of the society and to help them realise their dreams and make a place for themselves in the society, the bellwethers of the first initiative of NAG in the field of social welfare and development left no stone unturned to make UMANG-`07-08 a grand success.  And the response that UMANG`07-`08 got shouts volumes of the commendable work done by NAG. The great and very first event in the form of UMANG'07-'08 was inaugurated by the honourable President Award Winner Teachers of the  Supaul. It was done to give them a flavour of enjoyment in the form of honour given by N A G.

Day 1-Education Fair cum Career Counselling at Town Hall Supaul

The earnest endeavour of NAG in collaboration with Govt. Of Bihar( BSEB), Avita Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. , Swiss Flyfot Infosys, NRI Group Inc.(USA) and Smart Medi Solutions was materialised on the shivering and hazel morning of 28th Dec. `07 as UMANG kicked off with overwhelming response from the local residents and the students of different schools and colleges in and around Supaul. The first day of UMANG started with Education Fair cum career counselling and was held at Town hall Supaul so that the nobody in and around Supaul was left deprived of the valuable information to be given on education and career counselling, since they are the crying need of the hour looking at the backward status of the education system prevailing. Even in the crackling winter of Dec. people had thronged the Town Hall to be a part of the seminar which was being held FOR THE PEOPLE. The alumni of JNV pursuing their higher studies in prestigious institutions such as OXFORD University, Different IITs, IIMs, NITs , DCE/NSIT, DU, JNU, GGSIPU, NIIT, Cochin University  etc. shared their experiences with the students present. The professionals from various fields and corporate sectors shared their experiences as well and interacted with students in the career counselling session. The highly successful professionals made students aware of the upcoming technologies, various fields and opportunities out there in the real world. The alumni of JNV encouraged the students present to take an active and abiding interest in the work related to the progress of JNV so as to contribute towards the enhancement of the social utility of their Alma Mater. Next were the various events put up by the students of the Town Hall. Innumerable competitions were held at Town Hall which very well showcased the indestructible force of the talent possessed by the students of town and boasted aloud the confidence of the students who participated and those who were present as well. So as to encourage the students present to take a giant leap and cross the boundaries of their talent and realise that sky is not the limit, lucrative prizes were given away by NAG to the winners of various events. The confidence instilled in the students as a result of the educational sessions organised by NAG left the faces of the students illuminated with zillion watts smiles and screamed the message that said THE TOUCH OF N A G FOSTERS-EACH BUD(child) TO BLOOM.

Day 2-Agro Info Camp, Health Check up & Free Medicine Distribution Camp

The 2^nd day i.e. 29^th   Dec. saw Agro Info Camp, Health Check up and Free Medicine Distribution Camp as the major attractions of the day. This day promised happy and shimmering eyes of not only the volunteers of NAG but the locals, & especially farmers present at the occasion as well. The Agro Info Camp proved to be a boon for the farmers who thought that augmenting their crop harvest was next to impossible in the weather conditions prevailing in Bihar, but the experts at the camp explained the peasants how to grasp the nettle. This was just the tip of the ice berg, the free health check up saw a humongous turn out of the locals as more and more wanted to be a part of what we might call a zephyr of UMANG'07-‘08 indeed!!! A handsome no. of 987 (Nine Hundreds Eighty Seven) were benefited by the great endeavour of Free Medicine Distribution.Moreover, to add an extra dose of fun & excitement to the event two volleyball matches      (1^st Present Student Vs Alumni and 2^nd Teacher Vs Alumni), a cricket match (Alumni Vs Present Student) were held  and it was a delightful sight to see the them all in action. 

Day 3-Regional Alumni Meet

The alumni of various JNVs  gathered at the green lush campus of JNV Supaul and it was the day totaly dedicated to the navodaya family, although the alumni meet was inaugurated a day before by District Magistrate of Supaul cum Chairman JNV supaul but real action of alumni meet and get- together started this day as previous 2 days were totally given to the society. The last day saw a series of cultural programmes put up by JNV students and prizes were given away by NAG to the winners of various events. The alumni shared their experiences with faculty as well and the students present. The scintillating show put up by the JNV students in collaboration was highly appreciated by principal & the faculty present. The teachers were also felicitated on this auspicious occasion. Keeping in mind overall development for every section of the society NAG felicitated the workers present as well. Gift packs were given to all the teachers and staffs of JNV. Just keeping noble thoughts enslaved in our minds and not let them come out and take shape is what NAG doesn't believe in. Transforming thoughts into actions is the crying need of the hour and this is what NAG has adopted as the working ethos.

Still a long way to go...

The phenomenal success that UMANG`07-`08` met has given an impetus to the step taken by NAG and its earnest endeavours will continue in the times to come and will leave no stone unturned in removing any social ill present in the society and make every possible effort to help the social canker stricken sections come up and make a place for themselves in the society. The road has just begun and as frost said "miles to go before WE sleep....."
